April 12: I put 19 seeds in water to soak, 3 of T&M's Band of Nobles and the rest McKenzie's Russell Mixed.
13: I started them, on soil mix and covered with p-s-v mix. (peat, sand, vermiculite)
May 27: Only one plant is up outside.
August 2:  One plant is alive.

January 3: Seeds of the Band of Nobles variety arrived today from Thompson and Morgan, US$2.19.
May 1: No sign of last year's plants.
May 11: One plant is up.
May 21: I prepared 3 9-paks and put 27 Band of Nobles seeds in water to soak.
May 22: I planted the seeds. Stupidly I put 9 of the seeds in the centres of 9 Nora Barlow columbine cells. I started another 9 seeds soaking.
May 27: One sprout.
June 18: Many sprouts, of a fair size now. The garden plant was flourishing, but now I see that some of its stems have bent and the flower buds have dried up.
June 19: I set out my sprouts.
July 1: I replaced 3 seedling with my last 3 plants. I think cutworms got them.
July 28: They are growing, but not well. I gave them acid fertilizer and iron chelates, and sulphur, today.
~August 16: I gave them more acid fertilizer today.
December 2: I gave them sulphur in autumn. They are alive but not flourishing, but the oldest one appears dead.

2000
April 15: I planted 18 cells, with 1 seed in each cell. I bought the seeds 2 days previously. They are Russell mixed.
23: 2 sprouts.
May 7: There are 4 sprouts now. I started another 18 seeds, one per cell.
16: A sprout, from the new seeding.
22: I set out 6 plants, along the fence. There are no lupin seeds to be had in Winnipeg. Someone told me they were in short supply this year, and had sold out.
June 4: I sprinkled sulphur and fertilizer around the plants.
August 7: 3 plants survive. I gave them iron chelates yesterday.
October 4: Frost last night. Still 3 plants.
